Ep. 3: The Pump Coach

In Ep. 3 we welcome our first Working Mom Hour guest! Kristen Devinney, founder, CEO, and Pump Coach at Proud Ounces. After a decade working for Google, she had three daughters and learned that while imperfect, she had it the best of the worst when it came to pumping and working. It became a calling for to make pumping at work better for the moms who came after her. Listen to hear more of her story, and how we can give anonymous tips about companies that could benefit from policy, space and culture changes when it comes to pumping & working!

Ep. 2: Mom On The Resume

In Ep. 2 we chat about the idea of putting your motherhood on your resume, as a stepping stone to advocating for this role as beneficial to the workplace – not the opposite. Motherhood is skill-building, and something to be proud of! It’s time to change the perception.

There is no “right” way to be a working mom

If there was, this life might be simpler. Yet there’s beauty in the unknown. “We make plans, and God laughs,” Erica’s father would say. We can do our best with the tools we have to create the life we want; and then, let go. Find our peace. Find our joy. Today. Not later. Don’t wait for the finish line. Skip to the good part and seek it out now. You can.

“Have to” vs. “Get to”

The language we use makes an imprint in our subconscious mind. It’s important to mind our words, because we’re constantly, by the words we say, influencing people around us and knowingly or unknowingly influencing ourselves and our thought patterns.

We are thinking 60,000 thoughts a day and you say, “I have to go pick up my kids,” how many thoughts with negative meanings may come with that day after day after day. When you change that to a positive, “I get to pick up my kids,” your brain will start to create those shortcuts in your mind. Our brains have that ability to change.

Then, when you’re experiencing picking up your children, you’re going to be much more likely to find the positives – find the parents you haven’t seen in a while and say hi, see how your kids react when you drive up and how special that can be.
